Practice Achievements

Kirwan Family Practice has received confirmation of Full Accreditation with Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) on the 12th june 2019 for 3 years.

Our practice participates in the specialised training of the Queensland Ambulance Service Extended Scope of Practice in the Local area Assessment and Referral Unit (LARU) in Townsville.
We are the sole practice in the region who contributes to this important additional training program of highly experienced paramedics to improve delivery of primary health care to patients.
We have now had 4 paramedics successfully complete the training and are now working in our community.

James Cook University has presented Kirwan Family Practice an award for Outstanding Teaching in General Practice 2015


Kirwan Family Practice is accreditated for the teaching of James Cook University Medical students. If a medical student is sitting in with your doctor during your consultation session, the reception will inform you and your doctor will ask for your consent. Your confidentiallity is respected by our doctors and staff. All of our medical students sign a confidentiallity agreement.

Also in 2013 North Queensland Primary Health Network (formerly known as, Townsville Mackay Medicare Local) awarded the practice with a certificate of excellence for Chronic Disease Management
